Meningitis Angels Heaven and Earth Bound, Inc.

Anyone can get meningitis anytime.  Knowledge and Vaccinations Save Lives.

Meningococcal disease affects up to 3,000 Americans each year and hundreds of thousands around the world.
Infants, adolescents and young adults are at greater risk for contracting this disease than the general population and account for nearly 60 percent of all U.S. cases. If not treated quickly, meningococcal disease can lead to
death or permanent disability within hours of first symptoms.
The disease is spread from person-to-person through air droplets and
close contact, such as coughing or kissing.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends
meningococcal vaccination for adolescents aged 11-12 years.

For those not previously vaccinated, immunization is recommended before entering high school (about age 15) or for college-bound freshmen, planning to live in dormitories.

The older vaccine, Menomune, can be given to two years and older.

The vaccine Menactra can be given to children in the above CDC recommendation. There is currently no vaccine for children under two.

New vaccines are on the horizons. Check back for updates.

A note from Frankie Milley Ryan's mom and founder of Meningitis Angels

Ryan was our only child. He was 18, just graduated from high school, working on a pro golf career and getting ready for college. He became ill with an ear ache and a fever on Father's Day 1998.  In less than 14 hours he had blood coming from every orifice of his body and he died. We were told, had he lived, he would have lost all 4 extremities, been blind, deaf, and had total kidney failure. It is to late for Ryan and many of our Angels but not for your child. God has our son and we have His.

Educate Yourself, The life you save may be your own or your child's.
