Menactra Shots and Reports of Guillain-Barré.

Many of you have read or heard about the cases of Guillain-Barré and the possible relationship to Menactra the new meningitis vaccine. We know this is scary to some of you but please learn the facts.

Contact your physician or CDC  before deciding not to give the vaccine because of this latest news. We all know what the true outcome of not vaccinating is.

This is the latest information from Experts, the Company, the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control.

bulletSo far, more than 2.5 million people have received Menactra Shots, and there have been no other reports of  Guillain-Barré.
bulletZero cases have been detected among 110,000 persons immunized with Menactra in the Vaccine Safety Data link institutions.
bulletNo cases were detected in studies in 7,000 patients before the vaccine was licensed.

Experts from the company, the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are studying the cases to try to determine whether the vaccine was to blame.

One possibility they will consider is whether the syndrome was related to an infection caused by Campylobacter bacteria, a common cause of food poisoning, particularly from chicken. In the United States, the bacterium is linked to up to 40 percent of Guillain-Barré cases.

"The five cases occurred in New York, Pennsylvania ,Ohio and New Jersey . The limited region is puzzling, given the vaccine's wide use. Statistically, the five cases could be coincidental."

We will be posting the latest updated information here and on our site on this issue.

If you are your child develops this disease after taking the vaccine or you have a reaction to report, question or concern please notify your physician  or state health department immediately.
